SATURN, the leveler, primarily controls one's destiny. If Jupiter rules dharma, Saturn rules duty. By destroying one's pride, arrogance and ego, Saturn helps one realize what really the human life is and prepares him to tread according to the divine law.

As a benefic, Saturn instils self-discipline, endurance, consistency and steadfastness, so that the man will flourish both in the material and spiritual world. But as a malefic, Saturn induces apathy, indifference, mean nature, fear and suspicion, so that the man will lack merit, miss opportunities and thereby make his life miserable. Delay, hindrance, poverty, want, starvation, misery, sorrow and humiliation are the effects of a malefic Saturn. Those who possess caution, carefulness, spiritualistic outlook, forbearance, perseverance and virtue will be free from the evil influence of Saturn.

Saturn enters Leo, an enemy's house, the Sign of his father, the Sun on 1 November, 2006 at 7h 12m (IST) and remains there for about 2½ years.

During the period of Saturn's sojourn in Leo, Jupiter moves to Scorpio on 27 October 2006, to Sagittarius on 21 November 2007, to Capricorn on 9 December 2008 and to Aquarius on 1 May 2009. On 12 October 2006 Rahu moves to Aquarius and Ketu to Leo. Similarly on 30 April 2008 Rahu goes to Capricorn and Ketu to Cancer.

Mundane Effects of Saturn
Saturn's sojourn in Aslesha will adversely affect the aquatic objects and creatures as a consequence of natural calamities like tidal waves, storms floods, environmental pollution and exploitation of natural resources. Snakes will not only be killed in large numbers for smuggling their skin but also be destroyed, due to disasters. Fishermen will tend to suffer.

Saturn's stay in Makha will adversely affect the people of some regions in Afghanistan, Gandhara (Rawalpindi to Kabul) and Northwestern region of India. Traders and businessmen will suffer due to changes in Government measures and policies. When Saturn is in Poorvaphalguni, dealers in cold drinks and juices, and caterers will suffer. Young women may get tempted to be immoral. The people of Maharastra have to suffer from man-made and natural disasters and also from communal violence. When Saturn stays in Uttaraphalguni, commodities like jaggery and salt will be dearer and contaminated. Water will be scarce and further polluted.

Saturn in Leo will adversely affect France, Italy, Rumania, Chicago, Philadelphia, Damascus and Mumbai. Political changes will sweep France and Rumania. Disasters await other regions. As Saturn will be in the 12th to Virgo, Turkey, Switzerland, West Indies,

Iraq, Croatia, Brazil, Greece, Paris, Jerusalem and Los Angeles will suffer from lawlessness, political upheavals, natural and man-made disasters.

For INDIA, normal but unevenly distributed rainfall is assured. High winds, cyclones and flood may cause heavy damage particularly in 2008. If the U.P.A. government advances Parliamentary elections and goes to the polls in late 2007 or in 2008 the combine will have fair chance return to power again. But it is unlikely that Sonia Gandhi will become the Prime Minister. If the combine goes to polls after March 2009 the contest will be too close.

In Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections, the ruling Samajwadi Party may trail behind the combined strength of the BSP and the Congress. The Akalidal BJP combine has an edge in Punjab. In Uttaranchal, the Congress will suffer reversals. The BJP may emerge as the single largest majority party. The Northeastern Manipur state is likely to fall in the UPA Kitty. Election results in Gujarat may not match the ratings of Narendra Modi.

In PAKISTAN, a more democratic government will be installed. General Musharraf may lose power or continue as a lame duck. Floods and other natural disasters are in store for the country.

In BANGLADESH the opposition combine led by Sheik Hasina may come to power, if elections are held in a free and fair manner under the supervision of international observers. Security of some top leaders needs to be beefed up.

The SRILANKAN government will have an excellent opportunity to end the war with the L.T.T.E. If the present leadership ignores the favourable opportunity, it will pay a heavy price after 2008.

In NEPAL, 2007 will try to herald peace. Both 2008 and 2009 may prove disastrous for the Himalayan Kingdom as far as internal peace and stability are concerned.

In CHINA, sweeping changes in the governing CPC are awaited. Though agriculture will thrive well, typhoons and floods will impart their share of woes.

In RUSSIA, death of prominent men, some rich people and persons holding important positions in the government is not ruled out during the period of Saturn's stay in Makha. The government will spend most of the budget allocations on defence and military purposes.

The ruling Junta in MYANMAR will tighten their grip further and turn more autocratic in suppressing pro-democracy leaders and workers. 2009 seems to be promising for some positive steps towards democratic process.

UNITED STATES economy doesn't seem to be sound in 2007 and 2008. The economy may improve in 2009. The protracted war in Iraq and Afghanistan, Iran's Nuclear tangle, Israel-Palestine conflict will continue to haunt President George Bush.

In ENGLAND, major road or railway accidents are likely to claim some lives in 2007. But it will be a peaceful year for the Prime Minister. In 2008, not only the royalty but also the country will suffer from floods and storms.

In IRAQ, establishment of permanent peace ending the bloody war is in sight.
