YOGA ASANAS FOR STUDENTS

Vrukshaasana removes lethargy and activates the body. Bhujanga asana
provides energy to the brain and increases the memory power.
Students are the builders of the future of any nation. So we must provide
all possible facilities for the alround development of today's offsprings.
But, now-a-days, their life is becoming more mechanical and full of
tensions. To save the future generations from psychological and
physiological weakness, it is the first and the foremost duty of the parents
to tune their children to spare sometime for yoga asanas which give multiple
benefits. These can be practised in the home itself, absolutely free of
cost.
A strong body automatically gives shelter to the sound mind. Sound mind
increases self-confidence. So it is advisible to all students to do the yoga
asanas atleast for thirty minutes everyday to get allround growth.
Precautions to be observed before going through the asanas :
» The asanas should be practised
daily and regularly to get the benefits out of them.
» Nobody can do the asanas
perfectly in the first attempt itself. A minimum period of two to three
months is required to do the asanas perfectly.
» Force should not be applied at
any stage in doing the asanas. Daily practice enables them to reach the
final position of the asanas.
» Each asana may be done for one
to two minutes, but should not go strictly by time-limit. In the early days
of practice, even ten to fifteen seconds are enough. Do comfortably. If
necessary have a break after thirty seconds or so. Body should not become
too tired.
» Patience and discipline are the
key factors for success in yoga asanas.
Asanas those can be practised easily are :
1. Vruksha asana
2. Bhujanga asana.
Vruksha Asana : Vruksha means tree. In
this asana, the performer looks like a tree. Hence it is called Vruksha
asana. It is called also as Tad asana.
How to do it : Stand erect on a carpet with feets just apart. Legs,
knees, waist, back and neck should be straight. Raise your hand over the
head with palms facing each other, while breathing in. Retain your breath
and now stand on your toes by raising the body, shoulders and hands. Be in
this position for two minutes at a stretch or with breaks. Come to the
normal position while breathing out. In the beginning, you can take the
support of a wall.
Benefits : The benefits from this asana are innumerable. It prepares
the body to do other asanas. Chest expands and lungs become flexible. It
removes lethargy and activates the body. One gets the feeling of lightness
of the body and obesity can be cured. It prevents heart-ailments and cures
indigestion and constipation. It helps to increase the height of the
children atleast by two to three inches than the normal growth and also
gives a good shape to the body.
Bhujanga Asana : Bhujanga means
'snake'. In this asana, the person looks like a cobra with spread-out hood.
How to do it : Lie on your stomach on a thick (atleast quarter-inch
thickness) carpet. Feet should be joined and rested on the toes. Then spread
them as in the photograph; soles face the roof. Now place your palms at both
sides of the chest by bending the hands at elbow. Chin should be firmly on
the ground. Now have a deep breath and raise the body just above the naval
point. Keep the neck a little bit backward. Be in this pose for a minute or
two. Breath out while coming to normal. Relax for a while.
Benefits : It is a very good asana involving many parts of the body
like the back, chest, neck and the eyes. It gives strength and energy to the
brain. It can cure the diseases related to heart, lungs and the spinal
column. It cures the disorders of the uterus. It improves digestion and
increases appetite. As it sharpens the memory power, all the students (both
boys and girls) should do it daily for two minutes.
Besides the above-mentioned asanas, students are (even adults) advised to
do Pada Hastha asana, ardha chakra asana, Trikona asana, Sava asana and
Pranayama to get alround development.
Appropriate food helps to derive maximum benefit out of yoga asanas.
» Consume leafy, green vegetables
and fruits as frequently as possible,
» Avoid alcohol and tobacco in
any form even for the sake of fun,
» Non-Vegetarian and spicy foods
may be taken occasionally,
» Should not develop dislikes
towards any vegetable or fruit.
Eat all varieties of vegetables and fruits.
It should not be mistaken that the above asanas and guidelines are for
children only. Especially the above two asanas are very useful in the early
days to all those who have started practicing asanas recently.
