Siddhartha was born on a Full Moon
day, with Cancer ascendant and the ruler Moon in the fourth, mutually
aspecting five planets in the tenth. Seeing this configuration in his chart
and calculating the upcoming dashas, the royal astrologer told the anxious
King, that his Son is destined to become an emperor or the Awakened
One. With the lagna lord Moon and the ninth lord Jupiter in mutual
aspect, the father took extraordinary precautions to prevent his beloved son
from taking the path of austere asceticism. When Siddhartha was sixteen,
during the beginning of his Saturn dasa, the King got him married to a
dazzling devi, and gifted the couple three palaces, one for each season.
Until his Mars bhukti in Saturn, Siddhartha enjoyed the material gifts
bestowed by the Raj yogas in his horoscope. Then his Rahu bhukti started.
Siddhartha became intensely restless. He made three trips outside the palace
and saw sickness, old age, and death. He asked himself, Why is there
so much suffering, and how can I end it. On his fourth trip, he saw a
wandering monk who had renounced the material world to end suffering. The
monk appealed to his basic instincts and the young determined prince vowed
he would take the ascetic path.
On the day his son Rahul was born, Siddhartha left his palace in pursuit of
freedom. He practiced Hatha Yoga and severe penance eating only roots and
herbs. This penance was not working. Was Siddhartha trying too hard?
Neither my life of luxury nor my life as an ascetic has helped me
find a way to freedom. Let go and let God, became Siddharthas
attitude and he started eating nourishing food, regaining back his health.
On a Full Moon, his thirty-sixth birthday, during his Mercury dasa and
Mercury bhukti, enlightenment happened to Siddhartha under the
Bodhi tree in Gaya. Mercury is the 12th house lord, mokshasthana, in the
constellation of lagna lord, and in the navamsa with exalted Jupiter. He
gained the supreme wisdom and understood things as they truly are. Buddha
realized at once that the world we live in, is a phantasmal world, an
illusion so convincing, that our brains perceive it as really real.
This is what he called maya. He became the Buddha, the Awakened One.
From then on, he was called Shakyamuni Buddha.
After his enlightenment, he went to the Deer park near the holy city of
Benares and shared his understanding with five holy men who understood
immediately and became his disciples. For the next 45 years, Buddha and his
disciples spread the Dharma of Buddhas teachings. His fame increased
in his Venus dasa. Venus forms a powerful Raj yoga due to its association
with the 9th lord of dharma, Jupiter. Buddha died peacefully at 80, during
his Sun dasa and Mars bhukti. (2nd lord Sun with 7th lord Saturn and Mars
the bhukti lord is 2nd and 7th from Moon.) Buddha knew when his end would
come, (22nd drekkana has the influence of a benefic sign.) Buddha
understood, truly understood the temporal nature of all things manifested or
reflected in consciousness.
